Venice canals look duck pond-like, now that the tourists and boats have disappeared. The clarity of the water has improved, and ducks have started nesting at the Piazzale Roma water taxi stop – something not seen before! As a result, some Venetians are reflecting on whether the coronavirus lockdown is an opportunity to "see how we can be more organised in the future to find a balance between the city and tourism," as one hotel owner put it.
