As schools all over the country had to close their physical campuses in March, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) made the decision to keep its food services open to continue providing meals to students and adults, knowing that access to food is an issue for many in the area. They have distributed more than 13 million meals since March 18. Schools in LAUSD had already been providing free and reduced-price meals to nearly 80% of their students, so they were well-positioned to continue that support. While the district hasn't yet secured all the funding it needs for the current food program, it is moving ahead, committed to providing meals till the academic year's end date in June, with confidence it will be able to secure the money.
