A new AI-powered portable ultrasound system developed at the University of Alberta, Canada, promises to make scans and diagnosis readily available to not only to doctors and nurses in hospitals, but technicians, ski patrollers and others in the field from anywhere. TD Bank Group has provided a $450,000 grant for the expansion of research so that the system can be tested throughout Alberta. Project head, Jacob Jaremko, who is a radiologist,associate professor in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, and Canada CIFAR AI Chair at the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute said the goal of the project is to make health care access more equitable and improve patient outcomes.
