Naser Alnaser was nine years old when he started selling meals and pastries in a Jordan refugee camp after his family fled violence in Syria. His father helped make the food. The family arrived in Canada seven years ago and now lives in Saint John. The YMCA of Greater Saint John helped Alnaser and his siblings enroll in school. He credits a teacher, Mallory Cunningham, with helping them learn the English alphabet through songs and music. He blazed through all the lessons in only two years and now teaches his own English classes. Next, he wants to go to New Brunswick Community College for a business degree.
