In response to soaring fuel prices caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the New Zealand government has halved the cost of public transport and slashed fuel taxes. “This affects everything," said Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, "from the ability to get people to and from work, to the ability to move goods and services.” Finance Minister Grant Robertson said the cost of these tax cuts would be met by re-prioritized spending from the Covid-19 response fund -- notably the smaller expected spend on managed isolation.
