Sweden-based Eco Wave Power began installing its second grid-connected, commercial renewable energy generator—this one in Israel. Its “floaters” convert the rising and falling motion of incoming waves into clean energy by compressing and decompressing hydraulic pistons. The pistons then transmit bio-degradable hydraulic fluid into accumulators on land. The accumulated pressure then rotates a hydraulic motor and generator, transferring electricity to the grid via an inverter. The company began installing 10 floaters on the Jaffa Port breakwater. Once installed, they will be tested in real conditions before the conversion unit is connected to the Israeli national grid. EDP says this is a key milestone in moving towards commercial rollout of its pioneering technology.
