Allison Smith and her wife Olivia saw Big John at an auction. The scars and years of abuse were apparent on the over six-foot tall Amish work horse. The couple, who owns a nonprofit ranch called Colby's Crew Rescue which saves horses from being sent to slaughter, immediately took him in. "We looked at him and we were like, 'We're gonna have to bring that horse home,'" said Allison. They nursed Big John and brought him back to health. Most horses are put up for adoption and find their home with an owner once they recover; but some, like Big John, enjoys roaming on the ranch. And he is well loved on social media.
