Parents of children with type 1 diabetes are able to relax a little bit more with the help of a device and app working together to act like an artificial pancreas. Developed by Professor Roman Hovorka from theUniversity of Cambridge's Wellcome Institute, the device worn by the child determines the amount of insulin that should be given and the app, called CampAps FX, automatically adjust the amount of insulin it delivers based on predicted or real-time glucose levels by the device. An international trial study showed when using CamAPS FX the efficacy rate was almost nine percentage points higher than the current technology. Dr. Julia Ware said, "Parents have described our artificial pancreas as 'life-changing' as it meant they were able to relax and spend less time worrying about their child's blood sugar levels, particularly at night time."
