In Draper, Utah, urban planners are prototyping the idea of a "15-minute city." The name comes from its design for accessibility: residents need only walk 15 minutes to travel from the center of the city to its edge. The 600-acre property, currently serving as a state prison, will be undergoing construction and transformation. Upon completion, vibrant parks will intersperse throughout much of the city, connecting with office spaces, schools, and local stores. Wider sidewalks, wider bike lanes, and transit systems will all facilitate ease of mobility throughout the city and to natural surroundings nearby. The idea is that residents will only need to have one car. According to Peter Kindel, an urban design and planning principal, urban designing is trending toward "biomorphic urbanism" where people want a life less about commuting and more about connection with nature as well as with each other.
