Mya Beaudry is the founder an CEO of Kokom Scrunchies. Inspired by her Algonquin heritage, an Indigenous group of Canada, the 11-year-old uses traditional kokom scarves to make scrunchies. In Algonquin, "Kokom" means "grandmother" and grandmothers often would wear scarves on their heads if they wanted to work outside. Beaudry has sold about 10,000 scrunchies so far. Most are named after her family and people who inspire her, such as Kokom Lola or Kokom Celina or Mum. She hopes to open up a shop in her community of Kitigan Zibi some day.
