'He is planting for water in the future' -- it sums up what Swiss farmer Ernst Gotsch has been teaching others about farming in dry climates. He calls it 'syntropic agriculture' - creating better conditions for plants to grow instead of forcing the plants to adapt to increasingly worse conditions. His methods are now being used across Brazil, including the country's driest region in the north east. Farming now is thriving in those dry areas where soil had been compacted by forest clearing and burning -- the soil is improving, fauna is returning, and vegetation is not affected by the drought.
