Pete Mercurio wanted to get on an express train to meet with his partner Danny Stewart for dinner in New York. As fate would have it, he didn't. Due to the delay, Mercurio found an abandoned baby along the subway, freshly born just hours before with an umbilical cord still attached. Mercurio dialed Stewart and 911. Two years later, after a judge graciously arranged for an expedited adoption, the two find themselves becoming the foster parents of the baby boy. "We've always told Kevin from a very young age that he was left out of love, so that he could be found and cared for," said Mercurio. "We never used the word abandonment or abandoned. We said she left you where you could be found by us." Kevin, who is now 21-years old, is a senior at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania.
