When Kuttiyamma saw her great grandchildren learning to read and write, she wanted to, too. At 103 years old, the woman from Kottayam, Kerala was taken under the wing of her grandchildren's teacher who gave her books to read. She diligently read them and asked questions, all the while tending to her garden and feeding clucking chickens. Kuttiyamma always wanted to become literate since she was young, but she never got the chance after being married at age 16. After a year of study, Kuttiyamma passed her first literacy exam with a whopping 89 out of 100. She plans to study on to for her next exam.
