The Gilgamesh Dream Tablet, a clay artifact dating back to 3,500 years ago and containing an inscribed fragment of the Epic of Gilgamesh on it, was recently returned to Iraqi authorities. The artifact had been taken from the country during the 1991 Gulf War and eventually found its way to a museum in Washington, USA. After confiscation of the tablet, the federal court in New York approved of its restitution back to its home country. “We were able to recover about 17,926 artifacts from several countries, namely America, Britain, Italy, Japan and the Netherlands,” said Fuad Hussein, the Iraqi Foreign Minister.
