Actress Dolly Parton's initiative for children under 5, the Imagination Library, will soon roll out to all the 64 counties of Colorado. Since 2005, early childhood experts have picked high quality, age appropriate books to be delivered to about 16000 children each month, to at least 22 cities and counties in the state, including Denver and Colorado Springs. A bill passed by the legislative assembly directs the Department of Education in the state to hire a local chapter of Parton's nonprofit to work with local community organizations like schools and libraries to expand the reach to all the counties. These are communities with higher poverty rates, school lunch program participation, lower reading scores and limited library access.
