Steve Verze, a 47-year-old engineer from Hackney, London, became the world's first patient to be fitted with a 3D printed eye. For over twenty years, the young man was looking to get a prosthetic for his left eye. "This new eye looks fantastic," said Verze. "And, being based on 3D digital printing technology, it's only going to be better and better." Moorfields Eye Hospital stated the 3D prosthetic eye is clearer, less invasive, and allows for more light to pass into the eye compared to other prosthetic alternatives. The 3D printing process can also cut the waiting time in half, from six weeks to three weeks. Given its promise the hospital team is excited to explore the potential of the medical treatment.
