When her 6-year-old daughter, Aidah, asked if God loved boys more than girls, Mariko Clark knew why she asked - only two of the stories in her children's story Bible focused on women. She apparently wasn't the only parent to notice, because when she sought crowdfunding for support to publish her gender-balanced Bible storybook, The Book of Belonging, she blew past her goal, raising nearly $95,000 to print a first run. A push for such books has come from Christian parents who find their faith is evolving, said Traci Smith, a pastor in the Presbyterian Church (USA). But more conservative Christian publishers also see the need for resources that emphasize diversity and curiosity God's Colorful Kingdom Storybook Bible: The Story of God's Big Diverse Family is being published by Tyndale Kids and I Wonder, by Zonderkidz, an imprint of Zondervan.
