Taking Ownership PDX is a Portland-based organization that focuses on protecting longstanding Black communities from gentrification. Founded in July 2020, the organization repairs and renovates neighborhood homes, generating wealth for Black homeowners and deterring predatory investors. The group has helped over 50 black homeowners across Portland. Among them, J.C. Wade, a sixty-eight-year old who went through chemotherapy and has four types of arthritis, was nearly in tears. They helped for days! he said. My yard was overgrown I had dumpsters worth of overgrowth. But they cut it, cleaned it. I haven't really seen my yard in years."
