The Netherlands is turning its back on natural gas as the country's largest gas field begins the process of closing down, and plentiful renewable resources are available as alternatives. The village of Loppersum, located on on the largest deposit of methane in Europe, has launched a pilot program installing low-carbon underfloor heating in houses. Many are hopeful that pilots such as these will help the country meet its goal of making all home fossil fuel free by 2050.
