Varatha Shanmuganathan, an 87-year-old grandmother from Toronto, Canada, became the oldest person to graduate with a master's degree from York University. This is her second master's degree. "I will tell them, the younger generation, do your degrees, not just for career's sake. It should be something that should be life-changing," she said on a Twitter message. Shanmuganathan did her master's research on post-civil war Sri Lanka and movements for peace. In reflection, she appreciates the support her fellow students offered her and the lively energy they brought.
