Despite the Taliban shutting down girls' schools in Afghanistan, hundreds of Afghan girls and women are continuing to learn - some online and others in hidden makeshift classrooms. Code to Inspire, Afghanistan's first all-female coding academy, created encrypted virtual classrooms and gave laptops and internet packages to 100 of its students. Another non-profit, LEARN, teaches STEM courses to about 100 girls in an underground school, and US-based University of the People provides online courses to students worldwide who face barriers to higher education. Some students also work remotely with global tech firms on app development and graphic design, earning up to $500 a month to provide for their families.
