An annual report by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the International LaborOrganization (ILO) reports that 12 millions jobs were created in the renewable energy sector in 2020, an increase of 11.5 million from just 2019. The pandemic coupled with the urgency of climate change spurred the need for renewable energy. While China, India, the United States, and European Union contributed to the majority, other countries, too, are advancing in their aims. Vietnam and Malaysia are expanding in solar equipment exports, Indonesia and Colombia in biofuel supplies, and Mexico and Russian in wind power. Sharan Burrow, general secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation, noted that for every ten jobs created, there are up to an additional ten jobs created in supply chains, services, and logistics.
