Stella Vita is not your usual van, and the 1,800 mile journey from Netherlands to Spain by 22 Dutch university students is not your usual road trip. Traveling in the solar-powered van they designed, they want to inspire other Europeans to choose a sustainable future. The students, from the Eindhoven University of Technology, invented a two-person mobile home that generates enough solar energy to drive, shower, watch TV, charge a laptop and make coffee. On sunny days, it can travel up to 450 miles in 24 hours; it also has a 60 kilowatt-hour battery that lets it travel 373 miles at night. "If 22 students can design and build a vehicle like this in one year, then I'm sure companies could as well," says 20-year-old team member Tijn ter Horst.
