Four years ago, Police Officer Brian Zach worked on a case regarding domestic abuse of a toddler named Kaila, a two-year-old child covered in bruises, a skull fracture, and a dislocated elbow. Zach quickly became friends with Kaila during the case, and when authorities asked him if he would be a placement home for her as they look for foster families, Zach immediately agreed. As weeks turned into months, Zach realized that he wanted Kaila in his family permanently. Now, Zach and his wife are Kaila's adoptive parents.
