Forty leading international cement and concrete manufacturers plan to eliminate carbon emissions from one of the world's most polluting industries by 2050, even if their market grows as expected from $333 billion in 2020 to $645 billion in 2030. The Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA), which represents nearly 80% of the industry outside China, set out a seven-step plan which includes substituting lower carbon materials for high-carbon clinker, the main ingredient in Portland cement and significantly reducing fossil fuel use and increasing use of alternative fuels. Net-zero means making zero contribution to atmospheric CO2 across its entire value chain.
