An electric school bus in Massachusetts has sent power back to the electricity grid for more than 50 hours over the summer. By sending electricity back to the grid 30 times when demand was at its highest and most expensive, the bus helped reduce local emissions and cut the need to fire up costly fossil fuel “peaker” plants. It also helps reduce the cost of buying electric school buses vs diesel buses, as revenue from vehicle-to-grid programs offer a unique means to improve the economics of electric school bus ownership.
