Michael and Maggie Terry spend their evenings dumpster diving in New York City. Their finds are wide-ranging, from $400 worth of KitKats to an antique Hartmann chest valued at $3,000."It is crazy to think about just how much we consume and how little we care about it," Maggie says. They keep what they can use and donate the rest to food banks, charities, or leave goods out for free on their front stoop. Before passing their finds along, they share pictures or videos on social media and calculate the value. Since November 30, 2019, the couple has found more than $155,000 worth of goods in the garbage.
