Currently over 76.9% of Mongolia's territory suffers from desertification. In response to this, President of Mongolia U.Khurelsukh issued a direct decree to the government to combat climate change in line with its "Vision 2050" policy. The decree mandates that a legal environment be created where at least 1% of Mongolia's GDP is spent annually on combating desertification and increasing environmentally green facilities. The goal is to plant one billion trees over 10 years. If the program is successful, it is projected that 120 million hectares of desertified land will be reduced by 4%, forest cover will increase by 9%, and greenhouse gas emissions will reduce by 600,000 tons.
