It was all about putting on a show and having fun, for the 24 dogs and owners alike who took part in the Surf City Surf Dog contest on Saturday, Sept. 25, just north of the U.S. Open for Surfing. The dogs, on boards, were towed out by owners and volunteers to catch the next wave. “If you look at the beach today, everybody is smiling, and that’s because we all love our dogs,” said one. More than 500 dogs have taken part in the contest over the past 12 years. The event also included canine play zones and pet adoptions.
