African Parks is a non-profit organization that partners with governments and takes on the long-term management of protected areas to protect wildlife, restore landscapes and ensure sustainable livelihoods for local communities. A pledge of $100 million by the Rob and Melani Walton Foundation, one of the biggest contributions ever made to such conservation efforts, will enable them to greatly enhance their programs. African Parks currently manages 19 parks measuring 14.7 million hectares, and this transformational gift will enable them to preserve 30M hectares of biodiversity and bolster sustainability in Africa, according to an announcement made by them.
