Their health aides, housekeepers, and cooks are often from elsewhere - one of every four workers in long-term care facilities are immigrants. So when the retirees living at Goodwin House wanted to say thanks, they helped nearly 90 employees become US citizens. They raised $40,000 to pay citizenship fees and tutored the workers on the citizenship test. Rita Siebenaler, who led the residents' effort, summed things up after the citizenship ceremony. Immigrants want to be in a place where they are valued. And senior citizens want to be valued. It's mutually beneficial.
