The World Health Organization reported in 2017 that Nigeria accounts for 14% of the global maternal mortality, with 814 maternal deaths per 100,000 childbirths. Destitution and lack of quality healthcare facilities form vicious conditions for pregnant Nigerian women and their children. To address the issue, NGOs such as Hacey Health Initiative, Project Agbebi, and Alabiyamo Maternal and Child Healthcare Foundation are working on the ground to fill the needs for quality maternal healthcare. Among other services, they provide women with long-lasting treated nets, anti-malaria drugs, tetanus vaccine, and birthing kits. Given the ubiquity of malaria and the health complications it causes, such services are essential. "A lot of time we don't bother to go to clinic, they come to us to take care of us and also give us everything we need including clothes, foods and baby essentials, said Oke Jaqueline, a beneficiary of Alabiyamo's intervention.
