In third grade, Dashauna Priest wrote a thank-you letter to World War II veteran Frank Grasberger, who has carried it with him since. Frank, who was drafted at 18 and spent three years in Germany, was on an Honor Flight home from Washington, D.C., in 2009 when he got her note. He sent his own note in response, but never heard back. Over the summer, however, the resident services director at the seniors' home where he and his wife now live, found Dashauna via social media. In July, Dashauna and Frank met at last and there were tears and stories. They've talked on the phone since and Dashauna, now 21, plans to visit Frank, 91, and Delores, 93, again, this time with her six-month-old son, Kyro. She is one of our daughters. We looked 12 years for her, so we have to enjoy her now, says Delores.
