Ghanian-born American judge Maame Ewusi-Mensah Frimpong was recently nominated by President Joe Biden to be a judge in the US District Court for California. She is the first Black woman ever to serve on the Ninth Circuit from California, and the second Black woman ever to serve on the Ninth Circuit. Graduating from Yale Law School, Judge Frimpong served as a judge in the Los Angeles County Superior Court since 2016. She also worked for the US Department of Justice from 2007 to 2016. Judge Frimpong was among eight new candidates announced on September 8.
