A climate neutral facility with zero emissions, powered by renewable energy is being set up, at a cost of $116.5 million, by Swedish Plastic Recycling, to recycle 200,000 tons of plastic packaging per year. Using infrared sensors along the almost 5 km long conveyor belt to sort out 12 different types of plastic, the facility will eventually be able to recycle all household plastic waste. The new Site Zero's flat roof will be covered with solar panels and will be fully automated to process the waste. Any small pieces of leftover plastic will be sent to chemical recycling or will become composite products.
