Four-year-old Annika Arnout of Palo Alto has found rare stingless bees from Brazil, descendants of bees sent to California 70 years ago but thought to have disappeared. Dr. Martin Hauser last saw them 20 years ago when a homeowner was trying to get rid of bees in her backyard. Researchers worldwide were puzzled, until the bee was identified as one described in 1900. Hauser, impressed that Annika found two colonies when scientists had found none, gave her a huge bug book. Annika's bees aren't in the book and still don't have a name but some think they should be called "Annika's Bees."
