More than 320,000 Americans with severe disabilities will have their student debts erased, says the Biden administration. It was a long process for many disabled citizens to get debt relief; they had to submit documentation proof of being "totally and permanently disabled," have a limited income, and wait a three-year monitoring period. The complex system barred thousands from getting their debt relief. However, starting September, the Education Department plans to make the application process much simpler, as well as to eliminate the three-year monitoring period for good.
