Battery charging is the barrier which makes people hesitate to adopt electric powered cars whole-heartedly, but the best minds are working to come up with viable solutions. One such solution is to embed magnetic particles in existing roads so that cars can charge on the go. The German company, Magment, proposes to make this a viable proposition by embedding re-cycled ferrite particles in standard concrete rather than the vastly more expensive coils of copper. An electric rail with a movable arm to transfer power to a vehicle is being tested out in Sweden. An Israeli firm, Electreon, has come up with an inductive charging system to power trucks. Charging wires strung above the roads are another option, and while all these may take decades to come into everyday use, they point to exciting, eco-friendly options for future generations.
