In February 2019, Japanese swimming prodigy Rikako Ikee revealed that she had been diagnosed with leukemia. That didn't stop her from participating in this year's Tokyo Summer Olympics. Not long after her 10 months of treatment she returned to train. The 21-year-old swam second leg in the women's 4x100m freestyle relay, with the team narrowly missing qualifications for finals. Her remarkable recovery from the hospital to the swimming pool resonated with many hearts across Japan. They were touched by seeing her swim. One Japanese Twitter user wrote, It is already amazing that Rikako Ikee made her return after getting sick and made it to the Olympics. The fact that she closed the gap between her past and current performance makes me tremble and cry nonstop." Ikee swam in two more 4x100m relays on July 29 and 30.
