He put his life's dreams on hold, and his mother got a second chance at life. Au’Qwon Turner donated part of his liver for a transplant after his mother's autoimmune disease worsened. An earlier transplant attempt had failed on the day of the planned surgery. Turner and his mother, Tashawn Jones, spent hours in surgery and days recovering. While Navy recruiters warned he might not be able to achieve his dream of enlisting if he went ahead with the surgery, Turner said, “My mom comes first."
