A 2014 study by the Food Waste Reduction Alliance found that 84.3% of unused food in American restaurants is disposed of, and only 1.4% is donated. Danish app 'Too Good To Go" wants to reduce this number, not only by getting excess food from restaurants and grocery stores to the general public for just $4.99 or $5.99 per surprise bag, but also to facilitate more efficient production and inventory control. Though not catering to all dietary restrictions, the app may be a dream come true for those passionate about reducing food waste, on a budget and who love sampling a wide variety of food. The icing on the cake? For restaurants and grocery stores, it's free marketing. And for consumers, the sheer quantity of food in each surprise bag is indeed (positively) surprising!
