A herd of elephants from a British zoo will be released into the wild in Kenya in what conservationists say is a world first in terms of elephant "rewilding." Twelve of the 13 elephants were born and raised in an English animal park; one was born in Israel. The Aspinall Foundation is working on the project with the Kenya Wildlife Service and the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, which has been rescuing elephants since the 1970s. The trust said it hopes the project will encourage the return of animals to the wild where possible.
