Fourteen-year-old Della has a rare genetic condition that affects her ability to speak, but apps designed to help non-verbal people communicate are extremely expensive. So her brother, Archer, 16, set out to create a way for her to communicate, using a color-coded system of tiles on a tablet that lets her create sentences. He continues working to improve the Freespeech app while keeping it open and accessible to all. Della's mother says that she hopes people will realize that, given such a voice, non-verbal kids actually have a lot more to say than anyone realizes.
