Natalie Fernando was taking her five-year-old autistic son Rudy for a seaside walk in Essex, England, when the boy spiraled into a meltdown. Passersby were giving her and the boy reproachful stares and commenting. Enter the hero: a total stranger named Ian stopping to ask if Fernando was ok. She explained the situation and, as if it was the most natural thing in the world to do, Ian lay down on the ground close to Rudy and engaged him in conversation. The calming maneuver quickly turned the situation around and, after Rudy recovered his composure, Ian walked Rudy and his mom back to their car. "It's said a lot in the moment, 'In a world where you can be anything, be kind.' Words are easy, these actions are not always so easy. This man is living the words, and I couldn't be more grateful," Fernando said.
