An amazing new kind of "wearable" technology that can detect Covid-19 and other pathogens in minutes could play a huge role in detecting and minimizing disease spread, especially in rural areas. The Covid-19 face masks would let people test themselves at home and thus could be especially useful for local variant outbreaks. The CRISPR technology baked inside "effectively miniaturizes an entire laboratory onto a wearable garment, says Peter Nguyen, a research scientist at Harvard. The team is actively looking for commercial partners to help them manufacture the masks for about $5 each.
