In a groundbreaking decision, a Brussels court has ruled that Belgium's failure to meet climate targets is a violation of the human rights of the 58,000 co-plaintiffs. The NGO that brought the case, Klimaatzaak, hailed the judgment as historic because it recognized that we are in direct, personal and real danger. Dutch, German and French courts have condemned governments for inadequate responses to the climate crisis, but this is the first time plaintiffs have been seen as having a direct and personal interest, said a lawyer who acted for the campaigners.
