When Nadhira Alharthy met Khalid al-Siyabi, the first Omani man to climb Everest, it changed her life. He was among pioneering Omanis who told their stories at a 2017 assembly hosted by the Ministry of Education, where she worked as director of citizenship. Under his guidance, she spent the next two years building up her physical and mental strength. Sadly, he died while she was on Everest and so when she stood atop the mountain on May 23, 2019, nine years to the day since his summit, she honored "the first Omani man [who] helped me to be the first Omani woman [to summit Everest]."
