In Nigeria, houses made from dirt-packed plastic bottles are resistant to earthquakes and 18 times more durable than bricks. Each house approximately 1,200 sq. ft. takes about 14,000 bottles to build and is a great way of lowering plastic waste. Every day in the U.S., over 125 million plastic bottles are discarded, 80 percent of which end up in landfills. The same amount of bottles could be reused to build roughly 10,000 of these kinds of homes.
