A dog that had been wandering alone in the Arctic for more than a week was rescued by the crew of a Russian icebreaker heading for an oil terminal in the Gulf of Ob. Aika, a Samoyed herding dog with a thick and fluffy white coat, was wagging her tail and walking gingerly on jagged ice when the crew rescued her and took her to the nearby village. Owner Svetlana Chereshneva, who lives in Mys Kamenny, said Aika ran away during a walk and probably would not have survived without the crew's help.
