When 28-week pregnant Tammy Freed woke up with a cough and nose bleed, she was obviously concerned -- particularly because this was at the height of the pandemic in New York. The emergency physician she contacted, Leslie Miller, firmly told her to get herself to a hospital despite her misgivings and subsequent events proving how right Miller was. Interventional radiologist Dr.Abhishek Sista, who calls himself a "body plumber," discovered that a blood vessel had burst and flooded her lungs. A minimally invasive procedure saved Tammy's life and, after being unconscious and hooked to a ventilator for eight days, she woke up only to be told that she would have to undergo an emergency C-Section. Baby Max, or "Miracle Max," as everyone calls him, arrived at 30 weeks and recently had a chance to say thank you in person to the doctors who saved his and his mother's lives.
